Instructions to Authors
The Editor-in-chief of the
Journal invites the submission of original scholarly
contributions on any aspect of Islamicjerusalem from the rise
of Islam to present day.
1. Submission of Manuscripts
Contributions and editorial correspondence should be sent
to the Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Islamicjerusalem Studies,
124 Blackness Road, Dundee, DD1 5PE, UK. Manuscripts in both
Arabic and English are welcome and should be between 5,000 -
8,000 words in length. Three copies should be submitted, typed
double space, on one side of the paper only with margins of at
least one inch (2.5 cm), typed on only one side of the page.
Authors should not submit manuscripts that are under
consideration for publication elsewhere. Authors should
reserve one full copy of their manuscript.
The Journal publishes articles,
documentations, reports, review articles and book reviews.
Books sent for review in the Journal will be reviewed or
listed there; those not reviewed cannot be returned. The
journal also provides information, announcements and reports
on current and forthcoming events relevant to Islamicjerusalem.
2. Preparation of Manuscript
A title page should be attached which includes the title
of the article, the author's name(s), and the author's
affiliation (including mailing and e-mail addresses). The
manuscript itself should contain the title of the article, but
not the author's name (to facilitate anonymous peer review).
Manuscripts pages should be numbered consecutively, spelling,
capitalization and punctuation must be consistent within each
article. All manuscripts should meet the standard requirements
of the International Journal of Middle Eastern Studies. An
abstract of 100-150 words should be included on a separate
sheet, along with a short note of biographical details, and a
list of up to six key words for indexing. Once an editorial
decision has been made to proceed with publication, the author
will need to supply the manuscript in electronic form
(preferably formatted), for example on disk or by e-mail.
3. Proofs
The publishers and editors reserve the right to copyedit
and proof read all article accepted for publication.
Copyedited manuscripts will be sent to authors. JIS reserves
the right to change the transliteration of all historical
names, titles, and non-English terminology to bring them into
conformity with its own style.
4. References
All references should be indicated within the text, giving
the author’s name, the date of publication, and the page
reference: e.g. (Said 1978:33). If a numbered note is
necessary, it should not be used for citation, and all notes
should be typed together on a separate sheet- clearly
numbered- at the end of the text, before the bibliography.
5. Copyright
Manuscripts submitted will be expected to contain original
work and should not have been published in an abridged or
other form elsewhere. Acceptance of a paper will imply
assignment of copyright by its author to Al-Maktoum Institute
Academic Press, but the author will be free to use his
material in subsequent publication written or edited by the
author provided that acknowledgment is made of Journal of
Islamicjerusalem Studies as the place of original publication.
6. Offprint
A copy of the journal will be sent by post to all
corresponding authors after publication. Additional copies of
the journal can be purchased at a preferential rate. Twenty
offprints of each article and two copies of book reviews will
be available free of charge to the author. Authors may buy
further offprints at reasonable prices.
